Muay Thai shorts are one of the easiest fightwear products to start a brand with: one product, strong visual identity and a loyal gym audience. This guide walks through launching your own Muay Thai shorts brand with a private label manufacturer, from design to the first delivery. It is written for gym owners, fighters and new fightwear brands in the USA, UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Step 1: Know what makes Muay Thai shorts different
- Short leg with wide side splits so kicks and knees are not restricted.
- Wide elastic waistband, usually with large lettering on the front.
- Satin or lightweight polyester fabric. Satin gives the traditional shine; polyester is lighter and takes sublimated prints.
- Bold decoration: embroidery, contrast trims, piping and side panels.
Boxing shorts are longer and looser, and MMA fight shorts are longer with a split or stretch panel. See our comparison on the boxing and Muay Thai shorts manufacturer page.
Step 2: Pick your angle
The Muay Thai shorts market has many traditional designs. A new brand stands out with a clear angle, for example:
- a modern, minimal look instead of heavy patterns
- designs tied to a gym, fight team or city
- a women’s cut with a better fit
- a limited drop for an event
Step 3: Prepare your design
You do not need a full tech pack to start. A sketch or reference photo, your logo as a vector file, colour references (Pantone if you have them) and your size range are enough for a quote and mockup. For more detail, see our clothing tech pack guide.
Step 4: Choose the decoration
| Method | Look | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Embroidery | Raised, premium finish | Waistband lettering and logos |
| Sublimation | Unlimited colours and all-over prints | Modern and graphic designs |
| Trims and piping | Classic Muay Thai style | Side panels and leg openings |
Read embroidery vs screen printing vs sublimation for more detail.
Step 5: Order a sample
Always approve a sample before bulk. Check the waistband stretch, the split height, stitching quality and how the colours look in daylight. Pexton Apparel makes samples in about 8–10 days. Use our sample approval checklist.
Step 6: Plan your first order
With a minimum of 30 pieces per design and sizes mixed, you can test the market without a large investment. Many brands start with one or two designs, sell through their gym and social media, and reorder the best sellers. Read how mixing sizes works and how to price your clothing brand.
Step 7: Branding and packaging
Private label means the product carries your brand, not the factory’s. Add a woven waistband or inside label, printed care label, hang tag and branded polybag. See private label manufacturing and woven vs printed labels.
Step 8: Shipping and duties
Pexton Apparel ships DDP to the USA, UK and most of Europe, so duties are paid before delivery. Australia and New Zealand get door-to-door delivery. Bulk production takes about 10–12 days after sample approval, plus shipping.
Grow the range
Once the shorts sell, add products your customers already buy: rash guards, compression wear, fight team tees and hoodies, and MMA clothing.
